Located on the main road through Rugeley. About 5 car parking spaces at the front, a larger car park out the back.
It looks rather like a few old buildings that have been knocked around to form the hotel. There appears to be an annexe (I never like staying in annexe's, they are never better than the main hotel) so I have given that a miss and stayed in the main building.
The public gents on the ground floor was always a depressing taste of what was to come: Always damp floors, smelly, taps leaking or not working. I always think that if this is how you show the public your hotel toilet, it is a pretty poor advertisement for the rest of the hotel.
The hotel is near an "A" road, so I guess noise from front rooms may be an issue. My room was at the back, 1st floor. It was only just OK, quiet from no road noise, bed fairly comfortable, bathroom OK No bath, showerroom) A great big noise from the bathroom extractor fan that runs for ages after you switch off the lights. Tea and Coffee making facilities. Decor, so-so.
The Bar is a bit depressing, not the nicest pub in the area, service OK though. The stairs to the 1st floor are squeaky, and a bit depressing. Fire door slams shut, makes a big noise and may wake you up.
Breakfast is in the restaurant area. On a few occasions I have been a bit ignored. The selection of buffet items is about 0.5 star standard, low quality and not much there. Hot items tend to be OK, but you sometimes have to look for someone to give an order to.
Reception girls I generally find OK, they try.
Overall: a hotel that I would use in an emergency. I think which bedroom you get will make a big difference. Not what I could call "pleasant", not somewhere that you want to be.
