The Sheraton Midwest City is a relatively new property in Midwest City located just off I-40 (Sooner Road exit). The hotel is within walking distance of Rose State College, less than 5 minutes to Tinker AFB, and about 15-20 minutes to downtown Oklahoma City. This area is full of new structures, having been rebuilt from the 1999 tornado that devastated the area. The Sheraton is the most upscale property in an area of several hotels. The Sheraton is connected to the brand-new Reed Conference Center. As you might expect, this is definitely a business-oriented hotel. Several reasonably priced restaurants are within walking distance, including the Student Center at Rose State College. Many more options are available along 15th Street and Air Depot Boulevard, about 5 minutes away. There is a Wal-Mart Super Center across Sooner Road from the hotel.
Check-in was fairly smooth – took about 3 minutes to check in. I was asked for a credit card to cover incidentals – the front desk person seemed to indicate that this was not optional. I had planned to do this anyway, but those who don’t want to do this might be put off.
The lobby is quite inviting. Comfortable chairs and sofas are grouped in conversation areas, and look like one might actually want to sit and have a conversation. A bar and restaurant are located just off the lobby. I only had a post-rehearsal drink, but my colleagues told me the food was very good. There are two computer work stations in lobby. There’s a lovely garden in the back. Covered parking is available for no charge. I really appreciated that in the morning when I saw frost on windshields of cars parked outside the garage! There is also an indoor pool and fitness center, but I did not use either one of those.
My room (a single room on the Starwood Preferred floor) was clean and very comfortable. There was a very large desk that could easily accommodate a computer and plenty of papers. There was a sheer window covering for privacy (no view in this area), plus a roll-down shade that blocked light very well. The flat-screen, wall mounted plasma TV made for easy viewing from bed. The armoire-style closet held plenty of real hangers, iron/ironing board and a terry robe. The average-size, but bright bathroom had a wide array of high-quality toiletries – shampoo, conditioner, lotion, mouthwash, and shower gel. A vanity kit included cotton balls, Q-tips and emery board, and was a nice bonus. The towels were nice, thick and soft. The in-room coffee service included 3 packets of Starbucks Coffee (2 different varieties) and two different varieties of tea. Best of all was the bed-I love the Sheraton Sweet Sleeper beds! Generally good soundproofing – could hear some hall noises when near the hallway, but not in bed. I could not hear noises from other rooms – not even plumbing noises. Last, but not least, the Sheraton is entirely smoke free – so I did not have to contend with stale tobacco smoke.
A few nits to pick: First, the water pressure in shower was weak. Second, why the plastic glasses and paper coffee cups? I expect the cheap, tacky disposable items in the low to mid range properties – not the more upscale properties (which Sheraton strives to achieve). Not to mention all these disposables are bad for the environment.
All in all, with the nits picked, this was a good stay. I would stay here again!
