Got an excellent price through Priceline ($70). Room was great, but NOTHING comes free at this hotel. So realistically, between the valet parking (there is NO where else to park) and no comp breakfast and no free internet etc our one night stay cost much more than that. You cannot even use a luggage cart because only the bell hops were allowed to use them and of course you have to pay for that service on top of tipping, so we had to lug our stuff up to one of the higher levels of the hotel ourselves, meanwhile they were bugging us to move our car from the prime location for loading/unloading in front of the hotel since we had not yet decided to use the valet at that point. It was a very uncomfortable situation after a very long drive, and we were very offended that they expected everyone who walks in to be made of money (which we most certainly were not, hence our use of Priceline). We gave in to using the valet since there is literally no where else to park your car if you want to be at peace of mind that it will be untouched overnight. Cars get parked into a very cramped parking garage under the hotel. I guess they don't let people park themselves b/c they have to use as much available space as possible (cars get trapped between walls and other cars) so you have to give notice when you want to get it out. You are able to access the vehicle however, so when it is time to load up you can take the elevator all the way down and load the car, or get anything you have forgotten. Helped us to avoid another high pressure-move your car fiasco a second time when we were leaving. At least we got a free cookie upon checking in.
That being said, the suite was very nice and spacious, but had a "Pricline" view. Pictures are posted. Everything was very clean, bed was comfy and bedroom had a big window. Bathroom was nice with granite countertop, also had a microwave, coffee station, mini fridge, and sink in the hall between the living room and bed room. Living room had a table and chairs, couch, TV and was very spacious. We were quite pleased we ended up with a suite.
Another good thing - LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! Walk out the main entrance, go right, and there's the Market! All the touristy stuff is within walking distance, like market street etc. Next time we go to Charleston, we definitely want to stay in the Historic District but we may be avoiding the Doubletree (unless we win the lottery, and even then we may go elsewhere b/c I do not like giving in to greed).
