After reading a fellow reviewers note about unit 412A, we booked the same one for our trip and were not disappointed. These are condos that are owned and managed (I believe) by different management companies. We booked through 800beachme.com (Coastal villas I believe). At this site you can look through many different pictures and views. I actually liked the look of unit 536 but it was booked for the week we wanted. At any rate, this unit was clean and had 2 bedrooms and two bathrooms. The counters were granite-like and it had a full-sized washer and dryer (which I used everyday). The kitchen was well stocked (could have used 2 spatulas instead of 1), but it was not lacking in pots and pans etc. It had a toaster, coffee maker, blender, mixer etc. etc.
This unit is on the ground floor and we would go to the pool or beach from our sliding door. The grounds of shorewood are really beautiful and very well maintained--lots of rabbits that really thrilled my kids. The beach is about 100 yards and looking out the window you can see it. There were other units that were closer to the beach. Next year, I may try to get one of those.
Shorewood is about 2-3 city blocks from Coligny plaza that has a lot of t-shirt/surf shops, ice cream, and restaurants. We rented bikes ($12 for the day per bike--$18 for 3 days, $25 for the week) and rode down forest beach road--wonderful shade palm trees, really fun.
We went to 2 restaurants in Coligny plaza that I would not recommend--Pizza Roma--if you like pizza on a saltine--then you'd like it, we prefer some air in the crust. And a place called Hinchleys--overpriced food in baskets. Since we have kids (3) we didn't go to any of the other restaurants that we saw though-just because they looked more like couples places--there were many to choose from.
We did go to Salty Dog (in SeaPines) which we all loved--definitely a fun place to go even though it's a small shopping area. My daughter did a craft there under a tent and it was not crowded....just very hot!
If your looking for a medium priced lovely stay, I would recommend Shorewood--it's close to everything, the people were very friendly and the beach was wonderful. Just research the unit--look at the pictures, etc. Also, the pictures they have here on this site for Shorewood are not all shorewood pictures, there is no jacuzzi hot tub, no indoor jacuzzi, no exercise room (at least I never saw those). But the beach and pool pictures all seem accurate.
