“Comfortable and close to town”

Cuillin Hills Hotel

I stayed for one night. There are only a few hotel choices in Portree, the remainder being bed and breakfast. Cuillin Hills is a pleasant 10 minute walk from the center of town. It was well kept, and staff is very helpful. My single room was adequate, clean, comfortable (though small) and functional, and the bathroom was quite large by standards. They have some upgraded rooms which I believe have the harbor and Cuillin Hills view side of the upstairs level. Most rooms look out the sides or back, and one separate building is of two stories nestled behind the main hotel. The dining room was well done and the cuisine quite satisfying, both for dinner and breakfast the next morning. In August the hotel, pub dining, and dining room were all very busy.

We stayed in the premier room with large bay window and the view was amazing. Room was very spacious, with equally generous bathroom. Four poster bed and thick carpets – no noise from anywhere else. Our booking was all inclusive (DB&B) and the Restaurant was very nice with a good menu that changed daily. Attentive service, very good quality food but portions not huge. Breakfast menu more imaginative than most. Overall - not cheap but we would go back. Recommended if your budget goes this far!

“Great Hotel”

I stayed at this hotel with one of my friends. It was an ideal location for walking as we were very much in the middle of the island where we could either go north or south to walk.

We had a premier room at the front of the hotel which had amazing views of the sea across to the harbour in Portree. I wouldn't say that the decor was to my taste, however, it had only just had a new carpet put down that week and it was very clean. One thing I did enjoy was the very large bath that it had - it was great to soak in after being out walking all day.

The lounge downstairs was great also as it had a large open fire which we just loved sitting in front of after our return from our walk with a drink from the bar.

We stayed 3 nights in the hotel and ate here every night as there didn't seem to be many other restaurants open in Portree at this time of year. I found the food to be very good and the service was excellent. The staff were very attentive and helpful too which made all the difference.

One thing I would say is that the food is not cheap in the hotel - I reckon it is maybe slightly overpriced in the restaurant, however, there is a bar menu also which is cheaper.

This hotel is just fantastic. My wife and I just spent two nights there with our two teenage sons. The accommodation is of a very high standard, as are the staff. Cannot recommend it highly enough. Should be higher graded than it is by the Scottish Tourist Board. Hard to see how the place could be better!

Yes this is indeed a gem of a hotel!
We wanted an island break and searched online and were lucky enough to find a nice b & b with one dinner deal. The staff really are special here: very personal attention but, as someone else has commented, not intrusive. The food was simply great : the smoked salmon was in abundance for my wife's breakfast and my porridge with honey was truly regal.
Our dinner by candle light in a bay window as the sun went down over the bay was too perfect to to believe. AS we had drinks before going in to dine I expressed some trepidation at the prospect of trying langoustines (I think that's what they were) but the staff member assured me I would be given help if needed...maybe the chef had been tipped of for the seafood arrived nicely split up the back so no dexterity was required.
The service was superb and the rooms excellent. We ate one night in the bar and the food was equally good there even if the ambience was not quite the same.
Situated a short stroll into Portree centre the hotel could hardly be better placed. An owl hooted in the grounds as we walked back one evening...great it even has its own owl!
People not able for stairs may have a problem, but staff are happy to help with luggage if you need it.
It is quite an expensive place to stay but if you can get a special deal grab it!
I would go back no problem in a minute. Thanks to all staff there.
