“We'll be back again next year”

Spent seven nights in the Wailana (back) portion of the Sunseeker. I honestly didn't even think about the fact that they photocopied me and my partners id's. It was so inconsequential.

As for Eddie... he's a talker, sure. I can also imagine him getting sassy if he's not in a good mood. While I can see how this would be off-putting, it is Kihei and he is the gay. He let us borrow his boogie board for three days and I don't feel as though he was at all intrusive. I've got to give Joe a "shout-out" though. He's really adorable. I had a mean headache all day Monday, and he brought me Advil or something like that.

We only hot-tubbed once on the rooftop, and it was by no means too hot. Granted, our neighbors had been in it, and maybe the heat had time to escape before we got it.

My bed didn't feel like it was too hard, then again I like it firm. Our rooms were well-stocked with amenities we needed and Romie kept it very clean.

I'm not going to try to refute all of the other things that people found fault with. I'm sure that they are justified in their complaints. I just wanted to point out that for the price, Sunseeker was exactly what I needed it to be. Central, clean, and not just "gay friendly" just gay. My partner and I plan to return to Maui next year. We fully intend to ask for Wailana Room # 11.

“Terrible treatment”

I've NEVER been treated so poorly by a hotel employee. This same individual was already short-tempered/ rude over the phone while I was making reservation. He also was extremely rude to a friend who came to the hotel to visit us a Sunday morning. Offensively impolite/ invasive/ lacking sophistication and RUDE employee called me a BITCH and my guest JERK during a argument. I was very, very disappointed over all this. I will NEVER stay at this hotel again! NO Aloha spirit there.

The place overall is fine. The rooms are dark so be ready to feel like you are in a cave even though the sun is shining. The beds are not very comfortable and need some serious updating. Eddie is way too overbearing and I think the whole copying of IDs is ridiculous. It makes you feel as if you are a convict or maybe renting by the hour. Please, get some class folks. The hot tub is kept way too hot and I believe that's Eddie's doing. He gets very upset and tells you so if you turn it down. We're the guests, when did he lose that concept? The views from the deck are great, the grounds are well kept, the rooms are clean, no noise from the road, and the on site free computers are very helpful. My partner and I don't care to stay there again after two visits though because we just can't stand being made to feel like we are putting someone out like Eddie who behaved so strangely and made us feel "watched" while there. Oh, and there were some seedy characters in the hot tub one night that just really gave us the creeps so while it sounds interesting to have a clothing optional hot tub up there it can be very dicey. I have no idea how often the clean it or treat it, but I would hope often. Location by the way is awesome which is really the best part of the whole thing. Next time though we are going to splurge and stay at the resort near Little Beach.

stayed here lt summer with my boyfriend travelling from ireland.
was not aware at all that it was a gay resort but didn't mind at all. rooms were so pretty and comfy.....shower amazing. eddie seemed very friendly but i thought the photo copying of id's was a bit extreme. its a long walk from kihei and the road is quite dangerous to walk but we got over it after walking it at least 10 times. rooms were so clean and the grounds were lovely. the rooftop is great to relax although the hot tub is WAY too hot!!! note: i thought i was going to turn into a fireball and just.....well.....die basically.

with that, had a really enjoyable experience but dont think i would return again.

“Just OK.”

We spent 4 nights here in the middle of a 2-week trip in Hawaii. It reminded me of the old-school roadside motor lodges we used to stay in when I was a kid. The room was OK, certainly nothing special. There was good and bad to be found. The bed was hard as a rock, and the bathroom had a funky smell. On the other hand, we had a kitchen in our room, which was clean and well-stocked with cooking supplies. That was very convenient, especially on days when we left early or got back late from day trips. It was also very convenient to have laundry on-site. Eddie, the host/manager, was friendly and helpful in planning our days. He gave lots of little tips and pointers, how to get to places at the best times, avoid crowds, etc. We had a nice conversation with another couple at one point but otherwise didn't see much of the other guests, although there were a few sketchy-looking characters (as there always are in places like this, so we weren't surprised or particularly bothered by it).

The best part of staying here was the location. It was perfectly located to suit all of the things we wanted to do - the Hana highway, the beaches in Makena, Haleakala. You really couldn't be in a better part of the island to get around easily to all the highlights.

I don't think I'd stay here again but for what we paid, we were fine with it.
