“Great show and great evening”

Reading other reviews I can see that if you're more party oriented and on-the-go then an evening of drinks and amazing magic may be too slow for you. In the middle age and above crowd this ranks as an evening of memories that will last for years.

In a high tech computer generated world the sleight-of-hand may be simple but figure out how he did it and then try to imagine doing it yourself. Yes the front row gets the young girls and then gets roasted but you knew that when you took the prime seat.

With shows like the Illusionist and the Prestige out you can see that magic has a long history. During the show Warren tells you he is going to do the same trick and to watch for it and he still fools you. That is the history of magic. Go if you have an evening and want to be impressed.

We went to Warren & Annabelle's in late October, 2006, after having made reservations back in May. We found out about a month before our trip that Warren was going to be on vacation and Kerry Pollack would be filling in for him. We decided to give it a try anyway, even though I think that if they're encouraging people to book early they should give you more notice that Warren won't be there.

The pre-show with Annabelle is pretty cheesy and goes on for waaay too long. Annabelle's parlor is attractive though and the pupus and drinks were tasty. I'd recommend if you decide to go, that you purchase a package that includes the food and drinks, because they're pricey if you decide to order once you get there. Also, be warned that in keeping with the parlor theme, you probably won't be sitting at a table with chairs, but on sofas surrounding low coffee tables. We lucked out and did get a normal table and chair seating, but I wouldn't have enjoyed eating at the sofa seating at all.

After talking to other people who've seen Warren's act, it seems like Kerry Pollack did exactly the same show. The magic he did was very good, though there wasn't much of it. He was amusing enough, but the humor was predictable, pretty much making fun of the people in the first and second rows. A note of warning, the theater where the magic show takes place is small and the rows are set on stairs, rather than on an incline, so there is no room to stretch your legs. We asked to have an aisle seat for my husband because I'd been warned about this in advance. They were very nice about it, but even with my short legs, my knees were killing me by the end of the performance.

All in all, I wouldn't say it was a bad show, only that if you're in Maui, there are a lot better ways I can think of to spend an evening. It was the only thing that came close to being a disappointment on our trip.

“Good but somehow disappointed”

In planning our 3rd trip to Maui, Warren & Annabelle's Magic was on our "must see" list based on the glowing reviews from Maui Revealed, Trip Advisor, the TA forums, and various other internet sights. Now face it, who wants to be cooped up in a theater while you are spending precious moments in Hawaii? However, since this was our third trip and everyone said it's a must see while on Maui, well then I "must see".

First off I would highly suggest to go to Warren & Annabelle's website and review their pricing and menu selections and see what is best for you. Since my husband & I were looking so forward to this we decided to go all out and get the Royal Flush package.

You start your evening off by entering Annabelle's parlor in a very unique way which I am not giving away. Once you arrive in Annabelle's parlor you are lead in small groups to various sections of the parlor. This is where my first negative encounter happened. My husband and I are directed to a very low couch around a low coffee table. There were also regular arm chairs around this same coffee table as well. We were not given a choice on where to sit even being the first group into the parlor. I would have preferred one of the tables for two that I saw.

Trying to eat our appetizers was a challenge. The plates are too heavy & big to hold in one hand while having a fork in another. The only way to try and eat was to stretch our forks over and hope nothing would spill onto our laps. Try eating the Kalua Pork Tostada with a pineapple-mango salsa without spilling anything. I enjoyed the sample platter but did not think it was outstanding. The chicken was dry and very difficult removing the skewer. Aside from that the presentation was pretty and colorful. If you are going for drinks only then the couch seating would have been fine for us. Speaking of drinks, I loved their concoctions. I had something called a Bikini Martini which was really good and really strong.

Throughout drinks and appetizers, Annabelle entertains you with playing songs on her piano as you call them out. Unfortunately this would have been better if we had a better crowd yelling out songs to play. One of the hostess had to yell out everything which became annoying at times.

After dessert, mine a yummy Crème Brule and another round of drinks, you are led into a very small intimate theater. Our seats were in the second row but I can assure you there is not one bad seat in the house (viewing wise). The way this theater is designed in steps, there is no way to stretch you legs out in front of you unless you are in the very front row (not the hot seats) or maybe an isle seat. I have very long legs and found my knee caps touching the chair in front of me. About 40 minutes into the show my legs started cramping and I was very uncomfortable. So why don't I just stand up and maybe stretch? Well the last thing I wanted was to give Warren ammunition to start goofing on me if I did stand and judging by his show, he would have.

I will admit that Warren is entertaining and his magic is really good. To this day I still wonder "how did he do that"? I wished he would have done MORE magic or should I say Slight of Hand tricks. As for Warrens humor, well It may help if you brush up on the Andy Griffith show and maybe know some of the characters of the show. Growing up really never watched that show and at times I found myself lost as far as the characters go.

In conclusion, while I enjoyed the evening, I actually found myself in the theater during the show wondering what kind of sunset I was missing or what else I could have been doing. Then again if I did not go, I would have been wondering what I missed. However my husband totally enjoyed it, glad he saw it, but is doubtful he would see it again.

Warren wasn't there, another gentleman performed. GREAT comedian, although we hoped for more magic. Didn't eat the appetizers. We went downstairs and ate at Ruth Chris. Show starts at 7:30, however, you REALLY don't get into the actual show until around 8:45. Drinks and appetizers take about an hour or so. If you chose not to eat there (and personally I don't think they are worth the money, do eat elsewhere beforehand, but I would check in at 7pm-then go eat) We went off season so the restaurants were NOT crowded. Theater is small and personable. I say it holds no more than 50 people. No matter where you sit, you can see from all angles. $49 per person, no drinks or appetizers.

Just got back from a week in Maui, and I can assure you this show was definitely worth seeing!
I had no idea of what to expect. Sitting down for dinner in an unusual room. The food was ok but perhaps not the best I could hope for.(Dinner is an option, however, not a necessity). Waiters are quite entertaining, and the Annabelle theme is also interesting.
After dinner, we were moved into the theater, which is when the night really improves. Warren is an absolute hoot! I dont think there was a single person in the audience who wasnt cracking up with laughter. Be prepared to get picked on, but all in good fun!
I can honestly say i've NEVER enjoyed a show as much as I enjoyed this one. I've been to Vegas and seen almost every show they have to offer, and i'd give them all up to see Warren again. In all honesty it was 100 times better than I expected.
Hopefully I can return and see this show again real soon. Highly recommended!!
