“Great atmosphere at the Kuilima Estates”

We had a great time at 158 East Kuilima Estates next to the Turtle Bay Resort. The place was newly owned/remodeled and funished. Very clean and quiet. There was a bedroom on the first floor with a Queen bed and a loft on the second floor with a king bed and sofa bed. The kitchen was new, but there was no toaster. The beach was next to the Turtle bay resort, just a short 5 min walk. There were beach toys and beach chairs in the closet. Just booked it on vrbo.com.

We just returned from a week's stay at #99 Kulima Estates East. I would not recommend renting this condo but do not want to discourage you from renting a condo at Turtle Bay altogether. Just be aware that the pictures you see on the internet do not always represent what you will see when you get there! Which is true of any location I suppose. The problem at #99 is that it is old and seriously needs updating. The bathroom and kitchen are old and almost falling apart. Other issues have nothing to do with age but care of the landlord. For example, the towels were like those you would get at a Motel 6 (in fact, I'm not sure the owner DIDN'T get them there.) Also, the very thin sheets had several holes in them. That is really unacceptable. If the owner has had problems with people stealing or not taking care of his linens then he should charge a security deposit, not provide substandard items. Also, he advertised a barbque grill but it turns out it was at the pool, not on the lanai or belonging to the unit. It was close to the pool as described. I could really go on with issues we were disappointed with (eg. the bedroom faces the parking lot and very thin curtains did not block out lights). But for visiting the North Shore I would recommend this location. There really isn't much else of the (potential) quality. The grounds are very nice. You are NOT part of Turtle Bay Resort but there are public beaches there and it's a very short walk. Also, if it is your first trip to Oahu it is not such a far trip to Waikiki by miles but do not be deceived - the traffic on Hwy 83 travels at a snails pace and is two lanes. It is a good hour to Waikiki when traffic isn't bad. All of this being said, we have family on that part of the island and will probably stay at these condos again - we will just be more careful to check references next time!

There is a lot of confusion on this web site, due to the fact that the condos are privately owned and managed by different companies. The condos are on a property called Kuilima Estates. They complex is not called "The Estates at Turtle Bay", as this web site implies! The Estates at Turtle Bay is the name of our company, and it appears to the public that ALL of the condos being reviewed are ours. Not so! We manage about 150 of 368 condos and lots of them being reviewed are not ours, including this one. We are getting some bad press which do not deserve. Most of the condos which have bad reviews are managed by other companies. Our company, The Estates at Turtle Bay" is the BEST!

Having read a few of the previous negative reviews I must say we were a bit apprehensive. Had to check in down at the Kakuku Sugar Mill and must say the office where you pick up the keys could do with a bit of TLC! Wondered then if it was an indications of the accomodation. Check in staff were very good and let us check in a couple of hours earlier. We had booked a 1 bedroom condo - Condo #39. We were impressed as soon as we walked in - it was very comfortable, well appointed and had all the appliances/kitchen facilities we needed. You also get you own allocated carpark which was handy.

Not a cockroach in sight - but do remember that you are staying in the tropics and any food left out is bound to be attacked by ants - easily solved with a can of flykiller - that would be the only thing I would recommend to get from the store before you arrive.

Great location for my husband who made the most of Turtle Bay golf courses and the Turtle Bay resort a nice stroll away for a selection of restaurants - we decided to cook in the condo but was good to know if you needed somewhere to eat.

Make sure you check out Romy's shrimp shack on the main road towards Kakuku - the best garlic and butter shrimps in the world!

We arrived at the Kuilima Estates for a 2 week stay in September. The location and area is unbeatable, far from the hussle of Waikiki, the North Shore is THE place to stay for a romantic or family holiday. It is much more secluded, quiet and closer to the smaller towns and true 'island life'. It is also only about a 45 minute scenic drive to Waikiki for shopping and dining. It is located close to the Turtle Bay Resort and you have access to its spectacular beach which is just a short walk away. Be sure to visit Waimea Beach and Sunset Beach.

The actual condition of the rentals is another story. We arrived to the condo and was greeted to what was a very nicely decorated living atmosphere. Little pictures and designs were great added touches to the rental. The bathrooms and tubs did show quite a bit of wear. It was about 1 day into our stay that we saw it was suffering from an ant infestation. If we left any pieces of food out for 10 minutes ants were all over it. It just got worse and worse and so we brought it up with management and were very happy and grateful that they offered to move us. When we moved into the second rental, they we did notice a few ants here and there but nothing as bad as before, so we put up with it. The actual condo itself was no where near as nice as the first one. The windows were broken and chunks of the wall protruding, the upstairs level would always remain hot and had a stale smell that always lingered. It was also not decorated as nice as the first one. We spent very limited time in the condo.

In my opinion, I would say to skip the estates unless you know the owners as they are all privately owned estates. Pay a little more and stay at the Turtle Bay Resort as the North Shore is the best area on the island! I would never stay elsewhere. We even saw giant turtles swim up to the shore on a daily basis. It was an unforgetable vacation...highs and lows. But overall we LOVED Hawaii and would return in a heartbeat.

“Kuilima #62, Perfectly Clean and Fully Loaded”

This place was definitely a home away from home.

It was fully furnished with one queen bed, futon bed, tv, washer and drayer, TWO bathrooms, kitchen with cutlery, untensils, cups, glasses, cooking supplies and condiments. It even had a bottle of Chardonnay which may have been courtesy of the owners or from past guests. We dont drink so we didnt touch it.

They also had all the cleaning sypplies, towels, some beach equipment, and reading material about Hawaii.

This place was set in a golf course which was great because it was quiet. Its a 5 minute WALK away from the beach and a 10-15 minute drive away from the major famous beaches.

Most of all, this place was clean.

This place was amazing, and I would completely recommend it.
