“Great for the price and location”

Okay we read the reviews so were ready for anything. First off, we stayed here because we got the trip on Priceline for $120 a night. It was my first trip to NYC but I travel a lot to other places. We were prepared for a older hotel and small rooms that were a bit lived in. You can check my pictures and draw your own conclusion. The location can't be beat. We were right on the Lexington subway line, 3 blocks to NBC studios, Grand Central Station; 5 blocks to Times Square, 4 blocks to the Diamond merchants; 8-10 blocks to Central Park. The employees were okay, not too rude not too friendly. I wasn't able to upgrade rooms because it was a Priceline reservation even though I am a Raddison goldpoints member. We had a decent room on the 18th floor, decent bed and bath. We weren't there much as we walked almost everywhere. They are remodeling from the top down (working on the 19th floor at this point) The noise in our room wasn't bad at all unless I opened the window.

Booked hotel through priceline for £60 per night and stayed for 5 nights with my girlfriend in January 2006.
Hotel entrance is very grand and plush, but the rooms do not live up to initial appearance. The rooms are a bit dated and could do with a lick of paint, but if all you are after is a clean and comfortable bed for the night then this hotel is perfect-
fresh towels and sheets daily, safe in room , iron , hairdrier, cable tv etc. We were located on a smoking floor (although i did request a non-smoking room in advance, maybe this is due to booking through priceline?), and there was a noticeable odour at times- which could bother some people.
Hotel is also in a great location next to Grand Central Station. Would recommend the hotel car service to the airport with Hose ($69),worth the price if you have any money left!

“Fortunately the ballooning vinyl bathroom ceiling didn't burst......”

I pricelined this room for $89 and was afraid of what I might find after reading the reviews here. I was convinced that everyone else was wrong until....
We were pleasantly greeted by the doorman who offered to help us w/our overnight bags (but we were strong enough to carry them into the hotel and save on a tip) and entered a grand busy lobby. We had to wait 4 or 5 minutes for one of the 4 desk clerks to become available and were offered (unsolicited) an upgrade from a double bedded petite room to a larger twin bedded room on the 8th floor- no smoking.
The elevator worked perfectly-no long waits-when the doors opened on smoking floors we could smell the smell...i guess smokers like that smell.
The 8th floor hallways were very clean, lovely carpeting and decor.
Our room was large enough for us, the two beds (with space to move all around them), a table between the beds (w/Sony alarm clock that was able to ring at 2 differing wake times) and a cabinet housing a large fully working tv and small empty fridge(that made some minor noise). There was a large window which opened a crack at the bottom allowing NYC's fresh air to come rocketing in.
The bed spreads were clean but pulled threads were visible as well as some nail polish dots. The draperies and blackout shades were fine but the bed skirts were shabby. This room felt like an upscale dorm room.
The bathroom was clean, the towels were new enough, the soap/shampoo/conditioner were quite useable and I didn't notice the unusual vinyl ceiling until the next morning when I tried to pull the shower curtain closed and it wouldn't slide on the rod. I looked up and the ceiling was ballooning on either side of the shower rod, filled with approx. 10 gallons of water from a leak above. I dismissed the dripping I thought I had heard in the night as minor compared with the continuously slamming hallway doors. Why can't hotels lick that problem? And why do people have to have loud personal conversations in the hallways outside other guests rooms? I digress...
We got out before the ceiling ruptured and the desk clerk was duly alarmed when informed of the impending flood. He was on the phone right away, I hope with maintenance.
If not for the bathroom situation I would have stayed here again for $89.
The next night we pricelined the Murray Hill Suites for $60!! and while it's not got as grand a lobby, the rooms are comparable and we didn't need an umbrella to brush our teeth.

“DISAPPOINTING”

On arrival we were welcomed - or not as the case - by a most unhelpful receptionist who made a great fuss about the lack of a voucher she claimed we needed for the booking. I explained we'd not received a voucher as it was all done last minute and we had only a reference number. She still insisted on a voucher - until I impressed on her that I couldn't provide her with something I didn't possess! Help!
After sorting out that little issue she allowed us to drop off our luggage in our room - which had not been made up. It was explained this would be done while we were out which it was. However on the second day the room wasn't serviced when we returned from our day out at about 4.30pm. It was eventually made up at around 5pm. I suspect the room we were allocated was the worst in the hotel - it was small, pretty tired looking, had a leaking toilet and when the room upstairs' shower was on - well we could hear every drop of it - sounding like it was coming through the roof.
The bellboy was extremely helpful and certainly made up for the shortcomings of what could be a fantastic hotel.
I'd judged this Radisson on the standard of our local Radisson in Glasgow which is a first-class hotel, with first-class rooms and first-rate staff. How wrong I was!
The Radisson management should shake up this hotel - and they'd have a brilliant property in an excellent location and much better reviews!
