“Find another hotel, anything BUT this one.”

Crowne Plaza Philadelphia Main Line

Apr 30, 2008

The best thing about this hotel is the friendly staff, but it stops there. The rooms are small and dirty. There was so much dust under the air conditioner/heating unit that we thought the capet had turned white. The curtain rod was broken. For our entire three day stay a used orange juice glass sat on the floor outside the door of a room down the hall. The breakfast in the restaurant was almost inedible. The coffee was luke warm and tasted as if it was from the bottom of the pot. When I called for the reservation I asked for a connecting room with a friend. I was told there would be no problem. When I arrived and inquired about the room I was told there was no connecting room but we were right next door to each other. It turns out she was down and across the hall. When I complained, I was told that was all they had (but the hotel hardly seemed crowded). The last straw was my last night. At midnight I went to the bathroom and flushed. The toilet overflowed. Once it stopped running, I used every available towel to soak up the lake on the floor. I went downstairs and spoke to the night manager. He instructed another worker (who said 'this happens all the time' to get the plunger and follow me upstairs. (I asked for an extra set of towels too since all of mine were on the floor.) We got to my room, the worker plunged the toilet and left. He neither took any of the fouled towels nor mopped the floor. I complained the next day to the day manager. Do NOT stay at this hotel! I took a chance after reading some old reviews on this site. It had mentioned a removation. I had thought it would be OK. Was I wrong!

Ok, I know there are some bad reviews on here of this hotel, but I really have nothing to complain about!

We stayed here for 4 nights to travel back and forth to St. Joe's.

Several restaurants and shops were nearby (TGI Fridays, Potbelly, Chipotle, Target all within walking distance). The also have a restaurant and bar onsite.

The rooms were clean (we were on the 4th floor) and the pillows/comforters were well...comfortable! Lots of tv channels, high speed internet for free, and the place was pretty quiet for the most part.

I asked for the St. Joe's rate and got my room for only $99 per night (on the st. joes's website in the athletic area, there is a list of preferred hotels, and it says St. Joe's preferred rate of $99 per night under this hotel)

All in all, I can't complain one bit about this hotel, easy on/off access to the highway, very close to downtown and St. Joe's.

Hotel staff was friendly and helpful.

Ok - one complaint - no free coffee in the lobby....$1 at the bar!

I was a little worried staying at this hotel after reading the reviews on here. But the hotels is really nice and recently renovaded, staff was really nice, elevators where really nice from inside, the lobby was really modern, although their internet speed was really slow. The rooms were nice, loved the bedding. restroom nice and clean, they have a clock/cd player that came with a relaxing CD!, you can also hook up your MP3 or Ipod to it, just ask the front desk for the cable. overall we had no problem. would recommend this hotel to anyone. there is a target right next to the hotel very convinient, aswell as a starbucks, chipotle, fridays. Take bus 44 to downtown only a 20 min ride ($2.00) stop is right outside the door. cabs are always standing by around check out time.

“avoid as much as possible”

I am a flight attendant and had a layover here. My room was not nice at all--it was your typical old, dumpy, dirty Holiday Inn. It is right
off a freeway and it seemed to be in a very undesirable area. I was too scared to leave the room (I had my own food with me). When I was getting for work in the morning the blow dryer in the bathroom didn't work. I called front desk and asked if housekeeping could send one up---the answer was no. So I went to work with wet hair. I have written up this hotel to my company and try to avoid any trip with this hotel as the layover. Many other crew members have had similar complaints. I would not stay here if I got a 20.00 rate --it is that bad.

“Reasonable stay but some bumps”

I stayed here for several nights.

PROS:
-Location is convenient to both downtown Philly and the western suburbs (like the King of Prussia Mall) via I 76.
-Room had all conveniences like microwave, good sized, quiet fridge, (I think you have to pay a little extra to get those) hair dryer, iron. Full array of furniture.
-Liked the simple, clean, modern bedding. Comfortable bed.
-Free parking (sometimes the lot would get full in the evenings, but I managed to get a spot each time)
-Next to brand new Target and several convenient chain eateries like Pei Wei Asian Diner, Chipotle Mexican Grill, TGI Fridays. Also near some shoppng further down like Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord and Taylor. Also a short drive from the cute trendy district of Manayunk, and lovely Fairmount Park.
-Lucked out with a quiet end unit towards the back of the hotel

CONS:
-Bland somewhat outdated decor.
-The first night my bathroom reeked of cigarette smoke despite being a nonsmoking room. The fan just made it worse. Mysteriously, but fortunately, housekeeping was able to eliminate the odor when they came by the next day.
-Wireless internet was slow and had a poor signal in my room.
-Buffet breakfast was somewhat mediocre (some pancakes were literally rock hard and inedible).
-Renovations ongoing in the lobby although this should eventually improve the place.
-Stingy with giving new shampoo or soaps at times, variable service (sometimes you got newspaper, sometimes you didn't, etc.)

I seemed to have a somewhat better experience than others I know who stayed there, so I bet some of the rooms are variable. It's probably worth requesting one of the better, quieter locations on a renovated floor. I had no problems with the staff and found them cordial, but I think there are some glitches with their level of consistency at this hotel.
