“Big and impersonal”

Hilton New Orleans Riverside

As expected for a Hilton: A big, impersonal hotel that was perfectly adequate for a short business trip. Small room with nice view of the river. Clean and well kept, with a comfortable bed. Nice (but predictably overprices) breakfast buffet.

Singularly unhelpful and poorly informed concierge who did little more than give me phone numbers for restaurants, instead of making a recommendation and reservation as I had requested.

The level of service and attentiveness of the staff was poor, but it was only as bad as one would expect for a Hilton and for a hotel in a city that is still facing a severe labor shortage. Long lines for check-in, nobody to help with bags, long wait for package delivery.

The location is okay, but not great. The convention center is an easy 3-block walk outdoors -- which in May is a steamy 3-block walk outdoors. A few restaurants within walking distance, but the tourist sites and better restaurants are all a taxi ride away.

“Great Location, but nothing is included”

Stayed here for a conference, but also had a bit of fun. The hotel is in a decent location walking distance to everything. The pools are very clean, yet they were doing construction on condos above the pool near the river. This made things a bit noisy. The hotel staff was indifferent although housekeeping did an awesome job.

It was a rather lengthy walk to Bourbon Street but we were two females and felt completely safe (even late at night). The mall connected to the hotel was cute.

The only bad thing about the hotel is the fact that the internet is $14.95 per day. That is horrible considering most who stay at this hotel are on business.....

“Can't believe this is a Hilton property.”

I am staying here to attend a conference held at this hotel, so the accommodations are paid for - $169/night. Let me begin by saying I would not stay here if given the choice.

Upon check-in at 9pm Monday night, I asked for a renovated room (due to prior reviews and this fact being published on their website that there are renovated rooms). The receptionist responded with "our renovated rooms are currently out of commission" - not "we don't have any left" or "your rate does not cover these rooms". I knew this was not true, but I did not think it was worthwhile to argue and took what I got.

I walked into a musty room, you know, the humid feeling on a hot day when the fan is blowing but not the air conditioner. To my surprise, the air conditioner was definitely on, but the room still had a very humid feel - it still does.

There are stains on the carpet, window curtains, and markings on the walls. One part of the window curtain broke off from the rod so it does not shut all the way (I'm using my hair clip to hold it together). I can't leave the curtains open because I face the courtyard and there are guests across the way. Two of the lamps do not work, I didn't do anything about this since the other lamps provided enough lighting. The shower has one of those cheap shower curtains that blow around and stick to you while you shower. I have even spotted a couple of fruit flies! Worst part is.. the walls are so thin, I could literally hear every single word my neighbor spoke as well as their TV choices.

It's a pretty long walk over to the Bourbon St area. It's fine during the day, but I probably wouldn't do it alone at night. There's a mall attached to this hotel, but there's just a bunch of touristy stores that sell miscellaneous items nobody ever buys.

I do have one nice thing to say about the room, it's very spacious and seems larger than a standard size hotel room. That's about it.

I guess if I got a super cheap rate for this room, I would stay here again, it's not unlivable or anything.. just would not think this room lives up to a Hilton name or 4 stars - maybe a Holiday Inn?

One last piece of information to confirm other reviews - you have to pay for the wireless internet and to use the gym.

“not pet friendly”

I had booked a nice room for our stay because it was a romantic getaway. I always travel with my dog. On the website it said that pets were allowed for a small fee. When I arrived, I informed the desk clerk to charge me for the pet fee, I did not want to be dishonest. She told me she would have to move me out of the room I booked, and into another room. Well she moved me completley out of the building I had reserved a room in, because it was the pets allowed rooms. The building I was moved too had a horrible mildew odor. The rooms were not very nice and we had to only stay in a double bed room. If I would have known about this I would not have stayed at this hotel. The staff was friendly and the hotel was in a good location.

Got great price from priceline. Awesome mississippi view.
Room was small. But couldn't ask for more with priceline. On the downside gym use was charged, it's a large hotel more aligned for business visitors. Not a bad location especially with streetcar station right next to it. Do walk over next door to IMAX theater and watch 'Hurricane on the Bayou'.
