The setting was very nice, but seemed somewhat worn. This is an enormous hotel--to get back to the elevators to our room from the pool was easily a quarter of a mile and all uphill. Same for walking to the lobby, though that wasn't uphill.
Problems:
1. It's a high-priced hotel, yet in order to get a decent seat by the pool you have to be at the pool before 7am in order to get some good chairs. If you leave for more than 60 minutes--like to get breakfast--the security guys can take your stuff and let someone else have your chairs. If you want a cabana, it's $300 a day, and oh, they can be reserved a year in advance, so good luck getting one if you didn't know about that. Competetive-not relaxing at all.
2. The food was only so-so and ridiculously expensive. The breakfast buffet was the best thing they had there, but there are many sparrows that land on the tables and place mats after people leave. You have to be careful not to lay your eating utensils down on the table or place mats. We went to the Four Seasons next door twice and they had no birds at all.
3. You pay a $25 resort fee that covers local calls and high-speed internet. The internet is not high speed and they offer a "higher speed" connection for $15 a day. I ended up using a Verizon PCI phone card for internet access and it was way better than their "free" version.
