“Very Clean, Comfortable, Friendly, and Convenient!”

Sheraton Gunter Hotel San Antonio

May 23, 2008

We loved our stay!
I am a clean freak and refuse to stay anywhere that isn’t spotless and clean smelling, so this hotel was a great choice! The staff is very friendly and helpful…in the morning when I began to enjoy my comp. in room coffee (Starbucks brand!) I realized I needed more sugar & cream, called the front desk, and 2 mins. later had a sweet man at the door with a bag loaded with both! The beds were very comfortable, including the puffy comforter (sheets spotless and crisp!). The hotel décor was beautiful and historic, the rooms were almost soundproof as they had a Prom one night of our stay and we didn’t hear a peep.
I can’t comment on the dining because we ate on the riverwalk each night, but we did have breakfast one morning and really enjoyed the tacos and iced lattes, but were disappointed when we ordered the chocolate covered strawberries (after being told by a friend they were a ‘must’) and they ran out and said they didn’t plan on making more for a few days!
Overall it’s a great choice…next to the riverwalk, walking distance from everything (Alamo etc.), clean and good nights sleep!
The only cons: tiny closet, small bathroom, didn’t get to try the strawberries, and having to pay to park at the hotel each day.

    • Liked — clean, friendly, price range, convenient
    • Disliked — pool closes way to soon, we wanted a nice soak after night out at the riverwalk

“The Best for Majestic Theater!”

Sheraton Gunter Hotel San Antonio

5 of 5 stars
San Marcos, Texas
May 10, 2008

We had a wonderful one-night stay at the Gunter to attend a musical at the Majestic Theater. The hotel is beautiful! Our room was unexpectedly huge and very clean and comfortable. The best thing for us was the location. It is right across the street from the Majestic Theater--we just walked across the street ten minutes before the show started. We can't wait to come back and stay at the Gunter every time we want to see a show!

“Mixture of old school class and new world modernity”

Sheraton Gunter Hotel San Antonio

4 of 5 stars
Savannah, Georgia
May 4, 2008

The Gunter is a beautiful old hotel built with the kind of class and attention to detail that most even expensive modern hotels lack. It's been updated and the rooms modernized, so it's really a great mix of classic, period-piece elegance with modern comfort. Several reviewers have commented on the small rooms -- my room, though, was quite large. I paid a cheap conference rate ($110) and was placed on the north side overlooking the pool. The room was decorated with quality furniture: 2 queen beds, a pair of arm chairs with table in a corner, a long desk along the window and a padded bench in the opposite corner. The bathroom was divided into a shower and toilet in one room and a vanity just outside it. The bed was very comfortable (although not Westin Heavenly quality).

Unlike many 4* (and 5*) hotels, the Gunter actually had an adequately staffed concierge desk, running 1-2 concierges throughout the day. The front desk was genuinely friendly. The pool overlooked an ugly parking lot and was partly in the shade most of the day, but it was functional and somewhat attractive. They currently have no workout facility, but there is a gym across the street that would be happy to sell you a day pass for $10. ;-)

Only two downsides for my stay: it's only a 1/2 block from the Riverwalk, but you just can't compete for ambience within being ON the Riverwalk. Second, the dining room food was bland, mediocre old school.

A very nice hotel and stay.

“Nice hotel”

Sheraton Gunter Hotel San Antonio

Apr 15, 2008

I stayed at The Sheraton Gunter hotel for a conference in end of MArch to begining of April. The hotel is very clean and the staff is friendly. The bed was one of the most comfortable beds I ever slept in. However the room was tiny-I felt like there was too much furniture for the room size. The bathroom was even smaller. When you stepped out of the bathtub, the toilet was right there. There was no place to put cosmetics and other items in the bathroom.
The other downside was the extra fees. There was extra for internet and even for bottles of water. You needed to use the bottled water in the room since the machine on the floor (lower price) was OOS.
The food was very good and service in the restr. was good. Room service could be slow-I got the feeling they were understaffed. The bakery was amazing!

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — comfortable bed
    • Disliked — fees for every extra

“Took great care of us!”

Sheraton Gunter Hotel San Antonio

Mar 29, 2008

We chose to stay here for our "Babymoon" and had specifically requested that we be near an elevator if possible. To our surprise, the hotel went above and beyond that. Not only were we right by an elevator, we were upgraded to a "restricted access" floor at the top of the hotel, free continental breakfast, and managers receptions! Granted we had just enrolled in the Starwood Rewards program, but we had no idea that would upgrade us.

Our room was huge and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom "space' was a bit small, but we managed quite well. We were very pleased.

The staff was extremely accommodating and very friendly. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. It made our last trip before baby a very romantic and memorable one.
