“Great Location”

Staybridge Suites San Antonio Sunset Station

5 of 5 stars
Bristow, Oklahoma
Jul 9, 2008

We stayed at the Staybridge Suites Sunset Station during the Big 12 Football Championship in early December. I wanted to book the hotel the closest to the Alamodome, and I could not have done any better! The day of the game, we walked out the back door of the hotel and right next to the property were the usual gameday exhibits, food stands, etc. Then, when the game was over and there were crowds of people EVERYWHERE, we walked out of the stadium and were back at our room in less than five minutes - counting elevator time.

However, this hotel was not only right next to the Alamodome - it was just a few blocks from the Riverwalk and the Alamo. So on the day of the game, we ate breakfast in the hotel (they have a nice buffet with hot and cold items) and saw on the television in the breakfast room that ESPN Gameday was at the Alamo, We finished our food and immediately walked down the road to the Alamo - and we barely missed any of it. The hotel is also very close to the Riverwalk, and we walked to it every day as we could walk to most of the restaurants on the Riverwalk within 5 - 10 minutes.

The room itself was nice, with a kitchen area (the full-sized refrigerator was nice) and a very nice flat screen TV. The room was large and clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was a bit on the small side, but the vanity was outside of the bathroom - all that was in the bathroom was the toilet and bathtub/shower combo. It was tight, but having the vanity outside made the restroom usable by more than one person at a time, which was convenient. We also had a sofa in our room, which was nice during the day when we all needed somewhere to crash. The hotel is located near the train tracks, but they definitely have tried to make it comfortable, with nice black-out curtains and complimentary ear plugs in your room (my sister-in-law used hers for the football game!). I am usually a light sleeper, but I slept well both nights we were here - either due to exhaustion from the 12-hour drive (thanks for the traffic, Austin!) or the excitement of the game (way to go, Sooners!). Either way, I can't complain - I had a nice time and found this a very nice hotel - maybe night quite as fancy as the Drury Plaza Riverwalk, which we stayed at last July, but still - a very nice hotel.

If you are attending an event at the Alamodome, I highly recommend this hotel. You can't find a more convenient location!

“Outstanding Hotel”

Staybridge Suites San Antonio Sunset Station

Jul 4, 2008

Outstanding front desk staff - they were extremely helpful. The hotel is beautiful and comfortable - breakfast every morning is excellent and the Tu-Th "receptions" are wonderful. We read reviews online where people complained about the train, the parking, and the neighborhood. None of those were issues for us. Unless you are unable to walk for some reason, the alternate parking is not far and is not a problem. The hotel is addressing the train issue apparently but it didn't bother us. And the neighborhood was fine. We would return without hesitation.

“Excellent Find!”

I was so lucky to find this place. I wanted to stay close to the Riverwalk. I had never been to San Antonio but heard the Riverwalk was a great place to go. The hotel was a mile or so away. You can either take a taxi ride (less then $4 one way) or walk (20 min walk).

The hotel was an excellent find. I named my own price on Priceline and this was the hotel that took my $50 a night offer. The hotel had a kitchen with full fridge and stove. Flat screen television. It was an excellent hote. The staff was very helpfull with all my questions. I did hear the train on Saturday morning around 6 am but did not mind. It was a one time wisel and I was already expecting it because there were ear plugs next to my bed.

The continental breakfast was awesome. The pool is kind of small and there is no hot tub. It was so hot that weekend that a dip in the pool felt excellent.

I would definelty stay in this hotel again. I thought it was an excellent find for the price I got.

“No sleep”

Newer hotel, friendly front desk person at check-in, free weekly happy hour and daily breakfast buffet. Good deal, right? I thought so until I tried to sleep. The hotel is pretty much directly next to train tracks that that are very active all night and trains must sound their horns at each intersection, of which there are about 3 surrounding the hotel. The hotel must receive many complaints on this because there are ear plugs (ear plugs!) and an informational card about the train in the room. Unfortunately, I can't sleep with earplugs in my ears, so my stay, while pleasant during the daylight hours, was miserable when I tried to actually sleep in the room. (Interesting that the card in the room stated that the train station was over 100 years old; the hotel must be no more than 7 years old. Either Staybridge doesn't do good market/area research prior to building hotels or they don't care about their guests.)

“Very Impressed”

Staybridge Suites San Antonio Sunset Station

I never checked any reviews on this hotel before booking it. We only needed one night stay and the location and price were appealing.
The front desk employees were very friendly.
We had to park in the lot just down the street (which was free); there was a security person there and cameras as well, so I felt the car was safe.
Our room was very nive. Full kitchenette: Frigde/Freezer with ice maker, stovetop, dishwasher, coffee maker, microwave and enough dishes/silverware for a family.
The bed and pillows were excellent! The room was also very clean. And the large LCD TV was great too.
I never knew it was a train station next to us, and we didnt hear it at all. I saw the earplugs in the drawer and wasn't sure what there were for until I read some reviews on here.
It was a Friday night that we stayed there and it was pretty quiet.
The continental breakfast was amazing. You can make your own waffles. There were scrambled eggs, sausage, yoghurt, fruit, muffins, cereal, juice, coffee and more.

They also have a little mini store where you can buy drinks, frozen food and a large selection of amenities.

Overall I was very impressed with the hotel and if I were to go back to San Antonio I would definitaly go back to the Staybridge.
