We stayed at the Staybridge Suites Sunset Station during the Big 12 Football Championship in early December. I wanted to book the hotel the closest to the Alamodome, and I could not have done any better! The day of the game, we walked out the back door of the hotel and right next to the property were the usual gameday exhibits, food stands, etc. Then, when the game was over and there were crowds of people EVERYWHERE, we walked out of the stadium and were back at our room in less than five minutes - counting elevator time.
However, this hotel was not only right next to the Alamodome - it was just a few blocks from the Riverwalk and the Alamo. So on the day of the game, we ate breakfast in the hotel (they have a nice buffet with hot and cold items) and saw on the television in the breakfast room that ESPN Gameday was at the Alamo, We finished our food and immediately walked down the road to the Alamo - and we barely missed any of it. The hotel is also very close to the Riverwalk, and we walked to it every day as we could walk to most of the restaurants on the Riverwalk within 5 - 10 minutes.
The room itself was nice, with a kitchen area (the full-sized refrigerator was nice) and a very nice flat screen TV. The room was large and clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was a bit on the small side, but the vanity was outside of the bathroom - all that was in the bathroom was the toilet and bathtub/shower combo. It was tight, but having the vanity outside made the restroom usable by more than one person at a time, which was convenient. We also had a sofa in our room, which was nice during the day when we all needed somewhere to crash. The hotel is located near the train tracks, but they definitely have tried to make it comfortable, with nice black-out curtains and complimentary ear plugs in your room (my sister-in-law used hers for the football game!). I am usually a light sleeper, but I slept well both nights we were here - either due to exhaustion from the 12-hour drive (thanks for the traffic, Austin!) or the excitement of the game (way to go, Sooners!). Either way, I can't complain - I had a nice time and found this a very nice hotel - maybe night quite as fancy as the Drury Plaza Riverwalk, which we stayed at last July, but still - a very nice hotel.
If you are attending an event at the Alamodome, I highly recommend this hotel. You can't find a more convenient location!
