“Comfortable with character”

Marriott Plaza San Antonio

4 of 5 stars
Austin, TX
Aug 20, 2007

We booked this hotel through Priceline and was a bit disappointed that it wasn't directly on the Riverwalk. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the warmth of the lobby and the character of the hotel grounds. The rooms were larger than we are accustomed to and the courtyard was lush and well-maintained. The grounds had character with multiple older houses converted into reception halls, work-out facilities, etc. The beautiful birds roaming the courtyard added to the ambiance - not your standard cookie-cutter hotel. The hotel staff was always friendly and helpful. The proximity to the Rivercenter Mall, La Villita Market, and Hemisfair Park make the fact that you are not directly on the Riverwalk seem inconsequential. We truly didn't miss a thing. The rooms were VERY clean with up-to-date furnishings and very comfortable bedding.
The only negatives were: stuffy corridors (no a/c?), high-priced parking ($25/day or $19/day self.....this may be the norm for the area?) and really slow elevators.
We will definitely return to Marriott Plaza!

Spent two nights over Easter weekend at the Marriott Plaza. Paid $85/night plus tax with Priceline. Excellent staff, extremely friendly and helpful. Room and bath where both clean. Hotel restaurant is o.k. The staff there is attentive (Including the chef), but the food is nothing to write home about. Hotel is close to the Riverwalk and shopping. Taxi service is also easy to get.

“Nice hotel”

Marriott Plaza San Antonio

Apr 10, 2007

I "pricelined" this hotel for $96/night. We stayed for 3 nights over Easter weekend. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. Our first room reeked of cigarette smoke, so I went back to the front desk and they gave me another room asap. They also upgraded us to a room with a view of the courtyard. My mom went with us and liked the hotel as well. Her room originally did not have a remote for the TV, but she let the front desk know and they sent one up. My room didn't have a bathrobe to begin with, but the front desk sent two up within minutes of my call. The kids loved the heated pool and hot tub. The workout facility was very nice. We ate breakfast at the hotel one morning and it was very good. They serve a buffet with a cook to order omelet, pancake and waffle station. The location of the hotel is excellent; just a five-minute stroll to the riverwalk. The self-serve parking was right next to the hotel ($16/day). The only issue I had was the internet access. The website states there is internet access in the guest rooms, but it doesn't tell you there's a $10/day charge for it. They have free wi-fi in the lobby, but it requires a user id an password from the front desk. This wasn't a huge issue, but it was a little inconvenient.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would stay at this hotel again.

Stayed at this hotel during NCAA games. Beautiful property and very quiet. If you want a very short walk to the Riverwalk but none of the crazy noise of it, this is the hotel for you. Loved the peacocks - our room was on the parking lot side so we didn't hear them as other guests stated. Beds are VERY comfortable - lots of pillows! We'd stay there again!

“A relief in a city of disappointment”

Marriott Plaza San Antonio

The hotel is one of the few buildings in the city that actually has some character. Formally the Four Seasons it is in a building that looks like an old finca, with red tiled floor and the sound of bird song around the entrance. The staff are very friendly and helpful, providing in-room gym equipment if needed! The room was VERY spacious for the $249 per night rate. (double room). The bathroom wasn't enormous but was enough. There is wireless web access in the rooms too for $9 (i think) per day.

Other people have mentioned the thin walls but i must have been lucky with my room as i didnt hear a thing (and i am a light sleeper)- so room 340 is a good choice if you need quiet!

In a city of tawdry excess and modern dull buildings, this hotel provided some much needed tradition and good service.

I should add that i moved to this hotel after realising how hideous the residence inn was- who on earth stays in those places?!
