“Great location!”

Hilton Palacio del Rio

Apr 20, 2008

The location couldn't be better. If you walk out the back door of the hotel you are on the Riverwalk, the rooms in the back of the hotel have balconies that overlook the Riverwalk (the rooms in the front have balconies overlooking the convention center area). The hotel is one block from the convention center, and about 3 blocks from the Alamo. There are tons of restaurant options within walking distance, including many outdoor seating options along the Riverwalk. I don't recommend the hotel restaurants as the food at the Ibiza is fair, and I got tired of waiting at Durty Nelly's while several waitstaff stood around chatting so I left (they saw me but didn't offer to serve me).The front desk staff and concierge were very friendly and professional. The housekeeping staff was good, but I would have preferred they put a bit more time into cleaning the bathroom floor (I'm really picky about this area). The desk chair didn't raise up (or at least I couldn't get it to do so), which was irritating when trying to work at the desk on my laptop. Otherwise the room was great - very large, wih a frig and microwave, and bottled water was left daily (at no charge). I stayed on the HHonors floor (17th), so that might make a difference. If you are flying in and not renting a car, you can take an airport shuttle, but if you want to get to your downtown hotel quickly - although it is very reasonable, I don't recommend you take the shuttle. I had to wait a half hour to get on it, and then rode around for another 30 minutes or so before I was dropped off at my hotel, and the airport is only 11 miles away. On the return, I called ahead and made my reservation for pickup (within 24 hours as they recommend), but they must have lost it or something because they didn't show up and I had to call and ask them where they were (fortunately a shuttle was close and came to get me right away).

“Great but pricey”

Location on Riverwalk is excellent. Rooms were very nice, the Hilton is an old hotel, but the rooms have been refreshed making it seem much newer. Staff was very nice. Only complaint that I had is the price. One night stay with parking and breakfast for five (2 adults, 3 kids) was almost $500 with tax.

“Great Hotel”

We had an excellent stay here. The bell service was prompt and curteous. The valet was expensive, but to try to park a car down by the Alamo on a weekend by one's self is impossible. Our room was clean, well furnished and comfortable. The elevators go right down to the riverwalk. Check in and check out was quick and easy. Would definitely stay here again.

“Nice hotel on the Riverwalk”

Hilton Palacio del Rio

Stayed 5 nights while in town for business. We had a room on the 17th floor for honor members. The room with a king size bed was as pictured on their website. It was quite large and very clean. While there was nothing special about the hotel (the decor is outdated) or the room, our stay was very comfortable (especially the bed) and service was always prompt and very polite, from check-in, to housekeeping and restaurant staff.
For the sake of convenience, we ate at all 3 restaurants on the property (Durty Nelly's, Ibiza and the sports bar). The food was good, albeit very expensive, but about the same price you'd pay at any other restaurant on the riverwalk. We also went to the Guadalajara Grill next door. The food was ok and reasonably priced. The Republic of Texas had great food, as did the County Line on the Riverwalk, but be prepared for the crowds.
The Market Square is worth the trolley ride, as is a visit to the Alamo. If you get bored, the Rivercenter Mall is across the street with plenty of stores and a movie theatre.
All in all, if you are going to be staying on the Riverwalk and you can get a decent rate, the Hilton is a great place to stay. Be warned however, parking is very expensive.

Our stay was terrific. The location was very central to everything and our room included a view of the riverwalk. Our room was clean and everything worked well. The concierge and staff were very nice ~ always willing to provide directions or input. The location cannot be beat ~ just within steps of everything.
