"Pleasantly" surprised with renovations - wonderful! very clean, modern, room, beds, shower great...all terrific! spend the extra get a partial view at least...15th floor fabulous to see! Suites are loaded with room....Extremely friendly staff- Mahalo Josh! for helping us and our kids (graduates) have a great time..continental breakfast was just right --beautiful fresh fruit( bananas, apples, oranges, muffins, rolls, juice, coffee ( toaster would've been nice for the wonderful bread!)...and helped alot with our 6 high schoolers each day! would absolutely stay again, easy acess to beach, food, fast food across the street, next to IMP, and friendly, helpful staff --Front Desk, VInce, Malia and Chris(Concierge was VERY helpful) and all the cousins!...all were very helpful and helped us moms out with our trip. Reasonable price for great location-just walk thru Int'l Market Place and cross street from Dukes/Sheraton. Great restaurant in hotel, sadly we didn't try till last day there...was very nice..Pool out of the way, but who goes to the pool when you are 50 yards from one of the best beaches in the world? Been to Waikiki 4 times and still happy with choice of accommodations. Mahalo!-D.,So. California

Just stayed at the Wave 25-30th June and it was pretty good. First of all i am a travel agent so i can say i would honestly send my clients here if they were looking for a moderate accomodation. Front staff were friendly and efficient, rooms were very clean and comfortable (great beds), i would say it is a very nice 3 star hotel and has a good location. We were on the 15th floor and had a partial ocean view which was nice. The continental breakfast is not really a continental breakfast. Don't expect to fill up on it. Mostly fruit, coffee and muffins. Other rooms might be different with the noise but YES it is noisy! Obviously being at a prime location in downtown Honolulu it is going to be noisy. Be prepared and bring ear plugs. They do provide one set in the room. The beach was a bit of a hike but not too bad...seemed further than the block and a half everyone said. Being right beside the International Marketplace was fun and there was great shopping in the area. I noticed one persons review saying that there were prostitutes in the area and unfortunatly yes they are around though i never once felt unsafe in the area. I think you are going to get that around most of the hotels in that area. The Aqua Wave does have security lock the door at 10pm and then anyone coming in has to swipe their card. All in all i did like it and yes i would stay here again.

“Great Location!”

Aqua Waikiki Wave

We spent six nights at the Wave, from June 17-23. We rented a car and finding the hotel was easy. Finding the parking was not. After our fourth trip around the block, we finally figured out that the parking was the driveway just past the hotel if you are heading west on Kuhio Ave. There were no spots in the hotel parking, but there is a public garage down that same driveway. While my husband waited for service at the garage - I went to check in. Check in could have been a bit smoother. The gentleman - George I believe - could have been more helpful. I told him that there were no spots in their parking and that we were parking in the garage next door. He told me to come back to get my parking pass when we finally did get a spot in their parking. There were also some issues regarding the credit card I wanted to give him, even though it was the same card used to secure the room and make the deposit. He did not, however, forget to mention the spa services.

The room was clean and spacious, although a little more thought could have been put into the decorating. A fan in the bathroom would be nice too. Our balcony overlooked the garage, but there were nice views to either side. Since I did not pay the extra expense for an ocean view room, I turned my head. The beds were comfortable. We had an issue with the cable wire for the TV and a noise was coming from the smoke detector. Both of those issues were fixed promptly. Around the third day, we mentioned that our tub was leaking, that had not been fixed as of the day we left.

Our first night there we had a bit of trouble sleeping and went out around 3:30 am looking for a bite to eat. We did run into the prostitutes. They were not "aggressive" , and they were not overly trashy, so unless you make it a habit of being awake that early or up that late, they should not be a concern. We could hear the noise from the marketplace, but that ended fairly early. They only noise that bothered us was when the bars threw out their glass bottles at 4am.

The next day we found parking under the hotel. Parking is tight, but I found that seems to be the case in most places on the island, so that was not unusual. I went to get our parking pass, and I heard the person in front of me being told about a continental breakfast on the 1st floor. That was never told to me upon check in. I got my pass and the girl behind the desk also told me that The Wave has 30 overflow spots at the garage next door, and that as long as I have my pass, we could come and go from there as we pleased. Again, that should have been mentioned upon check-in.

Our other big concern was the housekeeping. Our first day there, we came back to our room to rest and freshen up for dinner. At 3:30 pm, when we returned, our room had not been touched, so I placed the "rest" (do not disturb) card on the door, so the attendant called to tell me she had to clean my room. A second time there were late and the attendant knocked on the door. We told her to wait one minute, but she opened the door anyway. One day they forgot the coffee for the coffee pot, and another day, they took our dirty towels, but never replaced them. There were a few times the elevators were filthy, I heard there was quite a few seniors staying there, and we saw quite a few teens without adult supervision, so I am not sure that that is always a problem. I did see maintenance painting the lobby area, and its good to see the constant upkeep of the hotel.

The true bright spot was Brian "The Big Round Brown Guy". He is one of the bellman, and he was incredible from our first morning there.

The location was perfect - the furthest we walked was tot he aquarium - just over a mile. The beach is very close, and there were plenty of dining options within steps of the hotel.

    • Disliked — Housekeeping could have been more attentive.

“Beat my expectations”

Aqua Waikiki Wave

Wow!! If you want a less expensive hotel off the beach, this is it!! Sit back this may take a couple of minutes. We were here 3 nights. We had a King bed suite on the 9th floor, so the garbage pick up was not very loud. The room was really clean, and the bed was very comfortable. After we checked in, we went out to look around awhile. when we came back there was a bottle of champain, and a box of chocolate covered Macadamiea nuts, (our travel agent had let them know we were on our 25th anniversary). waiting for us The view from the front of our lanai, (looking west), was another building, but to the right was the mountians, and the beach to the left. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and had written directions, to any location. The parking garage is very limited, but the rack-em, and stack-em system, across the alley, is kind of fun to watch, and even though you may have to wait in line, it moves really fast. The hotel is right in the center of all the action, but we never saw any "street girls", and we came in late a couple of times. Going out to the right, (west) the International market place is just a 1/2 block away, and just at the entrance, on one side is the PUKA Dog,(a twist on hot dogs that we saw on Food network, realy good), also upstairs is the Galaxy restaraunt, ($2.99 for 2 pancakes, 2 backon/sausage, 2 eggs),[watch out milk is $2.50 a glass]. I will say the hotel breakfast changes each day, and is sometimes good, and sometimes not, but a Galaxy breakfast will eliminate the need for a big lunch. To the left leaving the hotel is an alley, which is full of street venders, where great deals are to be had,. and if you continue to the beach stay to the right of the Royal hawian hotel(pink) and you will go through the lobby of the Waikiki Sheridan, and come out @ their pool, which if you do @ sunset you will happen up on the nightly hula show. The Duke Kahanamoku statue is 2-3 blocks East, on the beach, and has a web-cam on it so you can call your friends, and wave at them live, on computer.

“An excellent hotel in Waikiki”

Aqua Waikiki Wave

Having recently spent 2 weeks in the Aqua Waikiki Wave Hotel, I would thoroughly recommend it. We stayed in a corner room on the 7th Floor. This was a lovely large room containing 2 queensize beds, several armchairs, microwave, hairdryer , iron, and coffee maker. Because it was a corner room we had two balconies both of which had outdoor chairs and table, The hotel is very central, next door to the International Markets, only a block away from the beach, and had plenty of eating outlets close by. Shopping in and around the markets was good fun.

Were there any negatives? The noise from the night market's was minimal and was usually finished by 10.30pm. However the emptying of rubbish bins in the early morning was as good as an alarm clock, but I understand most hotels in Waikiki would have this problem. The staff were very friendly and could not have been more helpful when asked for directions or information etc.. A blown light globe was replaced within minutes of our request.
