Casa Real is a choice for budget travellers who want to pamper themselves without burning a deep hole in their pockets. Before I went to Macau, I was at Hong Kong. The room rate for a so called 3* hotel at Hong Kong (see Dorsett Seaview reviews) cost me ~S$120 which is more expensive than this 4* hotel which cost me ~S$100 and the room @ Casa real is 3 times bigger. (Note :I consider it a 4* , however it may be categorised a 3-3.5* in Macau hotel standards; comparing to Sofitel, Venetian, Wynn, Lisboa, etc).
If you are coming over from Hong Kong by the speed boat at night; which we did, arriving at approx. 9pm, then you probably would have to walk ur way to Casa Real- a 10mins walk from the Ferry Terminal. You would see minibuses from Venetian, Wynn, Galaxy Star World, so forth, but none from Casa Real. The locals are not too familiar with the Hotel English Name "Casa Real", but rather in Chinese/ Cantonese "Huang Jia Jin Bao/ Wong Kar Kam Bow".
The service @ Casa Real was excellent. No deposit was required to hold room for late check-in. In addition, my husband and I were given a free upgrade to a deluxe room. The room was clean and spacious and had a good view of Guia Hill. The cable TV offers many channels for the insomniacs who don't wish to be spending time at casinos. However the in-house casino is a great disappointment. Take a cab to Grand Lisboa to have better fun. Another minus point, no nearby 24hrs eating house for the famished.
Overall we enjoyed our stay at Casa Real, Macau.
