Watching Football
The Swedish football season runs from April to October and the top two divisions (Allsvenskan and Suprettan) are nationwide with the lower divisions being set up in a regional format. Stockholm currently has three teams in the Swedish Allsvenskan.
Djurgården - frequent challengers for the title who play at the beautiful Stadion, the 1912 Olympic stadium. Distance from the pitch and lack of roofing in some areas can dull the atmosphere but it's still a nice place to watch football.
Hammarby - occasional challengers for the title who play in the modern Söderstadion near Globen. A compact ground makes for a good atmosphere.
AIK - occasional challengers for the title although they recently spent a season in the Suprettan. They play at the national stadium in Solna.
Brommapojkarna - Just relegated after their first ever season in Allsvenskan, BP have the biggest youth set up in Europe with over 200 teams. A very small ground which required upgrading during the first half of last season. Based in the suburb of Bromma the nearest stations are Vällingby and Råcksta on the Green underground line.
Tickets for all clubs are often available on the day unless the big Stockholm 3 are playing each other. You can also try online at www.ticnet.se.
